ANTARCTIC ACTIVITY WEEK ---> The Worldwide Antarctic Program has announced
that the 23rd Antarctic Activity Week will be held on 16-22 February. The aim of this annual event is to promote worldwide interest in the Antarctic continent. Special callsigns (QSL via operator's instructions) are expected to be used during this year's AAW from Bulgaria (LZ23ANT), France (TM23AAW), Germany (DA0ANT, DM50ANT, DP50ANT), Italy (II1SR, II3MNA, II5ANT), Netherlands (PA6ANT, PF88ANT), Poland (SP0ANT), Spain (EH3ANT), Ukraine (EM30KCC, EM30KY, EM30LV, EM30VER, EN30UA), USA (K4C). Complete information on the AAW
can be found on https://www.waponline.it/antarctic-activity-week/aaw-2026/.
ARRL INTERNATIONAL DX CONTEST ---> Object of the contest is for W/VE amateurs to work as many stations in as many DXCC Entities as possible on 160, 80, 40, 20, 15 and 10 metres, while DX stations work as many W/VE amateurs in as many of the 48 contiguous states and provinces as possible (see https://www.arrl.org/arrl-dx for the rules). This year's event will be held on 21-22 February (CW) and 7-8 March 2026 (SSB). Give a look at the Announced Operations listings maintained by Bill, NG3K: https://www.ng3k.com/Contest/.
KP5/NP3VI: DXPEDITION EXTENDED ---> "The original recovery date was 12 February; however, deteriorating sea conditions have required us to delay equipment recovery until 3 March 2026. As a result, the DXpedition will remain on the air longer, providing additional opportunities for operators to work Desecheo Island for an All Time
New One (ATNO), which remains our primary focus. During the extension period, we will continue to operate on the bands and modes that have proven most effective and productive.
We will be conducting an ATNO Day for twelve hours, beginning at 12:00 UTC on 15 February 2026, and ending at 00:00 UTC on 16 February 2026. During this period, we will be focused on FT8 from 12:00-14:00 UTC, after which we will focus on SSB. Operation will be in the U.S. General portion of the bands. We respectfully ask operators who do not need Desecheo Island for an ATNO to please refrain from calling us during this period. This will help maximize opportunities for those who still need this rare entity in their log". See https://www.facebook.com/people/Desecheo-2026-Dxpedition/61585525894897/

LIGHTHOUSE WEEKEND ---> The 18th American Lighthouses Weekend will be held on 20-22 February. Details, including a listing of participating stations, can be found on https://www.grupodxbb.com.ar/.
SHARON TARATULA (1962-2026) ---> I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of ARRL Awards Manager Sharon Taratula on 4 February 2026. Since joining the ARRL in January 1994, Sharon held several key roles before becoming Awards Manager in 2016. She was widely respected for her expertise, particularly in managing the DXCC program. Although we never met in person, Sharon and I exchanged countless emails and calls over the years. As a Card Checker, I knew I could always rely on her helpfulness, patience, and unwavering commitment to solving problems quickly and effectively. The amateur radio community owes her a debt of gratitude, and she will be greatly missed. Rest in peace, dear Sharon. 88 de Mauro, I1JQJ
