9G5X DXpedition to Ghana 7^th to 21^st March 2017

We’re pleased to announce that a team of six English operators will be travelling to Ghana in March 2017 and will operate on all modes as 9G5X using three Elecraft K3 and KPA-500 stations. We will be QRV on all bands 160-10 m and active on CW, SSB and RTTY. The experienced operating team, which includes three of the recent C5X DXpedition crew members, is as follows:

RI0Z – Komandorskiye Islands, AS-039

In the period July-August of 2017, a group of Amateur radio operators is preparing an expedition to the Commander Islands group AS-039. Commander Islands — an archipelago of four Islands in the South-Western part of the Bering sea of the Pacific ocean. The administrative part of the Aleut district of the Kamchatka Krai of Russia. The island is named after who discovered them in 1741, Explorer commander Vitus Bering. In the team’s plans included visiting the most remote Islands – Mednyj (Copper). My family (XYL Marta HA9WM, myself HA5X / HA5XA and our twin daughters) will be on holiday in Costa Rica between 15 February – 1 March 2017. We will of course take some modest amateur radio equipment and be QRV from Puerto Viejo de Talamanca on the Caribbean beach (TI6) and from Tilarán on a hill overlooking Lake Arenal (TI7). RIG comprises of FT-991, FT-817, 300W linear, wire for antennas, etc. HF bands, CW, SSB and perhaps some RTTY. Very much holiday style, mainly in the morning and evening hours when not touring the country. Might work a few hours of the ARRL DX CW contest as well. XE1SPM, XE1SGW and XE1SOV have announced they will be active from the rare Isla Sacrificios NA-224 as XF2L during the American Lighthouse weekend (February 17-19, 2017). A note on the XF2L QRZ page says: “restricted to sunlight operation 15:00 to 22:00 UTC. This island closed the last 34 years”.
